Chinese people like red, and they love it more on this day. They hate white on this day as it means death. People eat, gamble, pass around red packets called 'hong pao' in mandarin, 'ang pao' in hokkien and etc.
I'm in Downtown Toronto this year, as compared to the previous years where I could celebrate in the comfort of my home country, Malaysia. I'm disappointed with the Chinatown in Downtown Toronto which didn't seem to give out that Chinese New Year mood. There weren't any lanterns, no firecrackers, barely any red packets seen around, not many special cookies or delicacies, and the list goes on and on and on.
It's sad, and it kills off the CNY mood, but screw that.
Uncle Charles came and gave us a treat...a CNY dinner!!! Which happens to be awesomely delicious, mind you.
We had...
wine
Lamb Stew, 'Tor Chun' Fish, Pomfret with Garlic
Chicken with 'Lap Cheong', Seafood Paste on Tofu, Oyster & Mushroom & Roasted Pork
And the people in our table...
The man with white hair is Mr. Charles =)
So, that was the awesome and delicious given by Uncle Charles. Kudos to him =). Thanks to Uncle Tony too, for the wine which made it all better =).
I guess that's my CNY so far.
HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!
